Josh Malks'

Paint Job 2000

Now

My Cord was painted Cadet Grey on the assembly line in 1936, then blue in the 1950s, then Cadet Grey again in 1972. By 2000 it had worn that last paint job for nearly thirty years. Paint was flaking here and there and and  had lost much of its shine. Patched sections from accidents and dings no longer matched. My daughter was to be married at the end of May 2000, and wanted to be carried in the Cord. It was finally time to repaint.

The work was done by a superb craftsman named Steve Mickens in Calistoga CA. Gail Shaw's Foothill Auto Service in nearby Fulton CA oversaw the reassembly.

While most paintable parts were removed and dissassembled, we decided to leave the doors in place. The edges and jambs would be stripped by hand and painted separately.  Click here to watch.

The job was done beautifully. I was very pleased, and so were Nicole and Eric, the bride and groom.
